Old School Arpeggiators, What a lovely sounds. Video Games probably come to mind. Ableton 10 Mac
In this tips and tricks video we see how to achieve old school arpeggio patterns with Live’s built-in MIDI effects.
Ableton’s Built-in Arpeggiator is awesome. It has really great styles built-in but we can expand them using other MIDI effects. For example, When we choose the Style Updown and add a few Steps. The pattern will go Up and Down one octave and only then jump to the next which is not so old-school.

Instead of using the Step knob we can add a Chord MIDI effect before the Arpeggiator and set the first knob to +12 (Octave). We can then duplicate the Chord MIDI effect for as many octaves as we want.
Now the Arpeggiator will play all the way up and then all the way down just like Arpeggiators from old video games.
This Technique will also give you different Arpeggiator patterns for almost all styles.

Developer Don Turnock has released Odyssey for VCV Rack, a free, multi-platform software modular synthesizer.
Turnock describes Odyssey for VCV Rack as ‘an Arp Odyssey on steroids’.
Here’s what he has to say about it:
“It is very close in most ways, I owned 2 different Oddys back in the day.
The oscillators are a bit ballsier than arps, but filtered back a bit they are very close. the HPF can thin them a bit also.. Adding the third VCO was a tribute to the MiniMoog. I was going to make the 3rd osc go between audio and LFO, then decided to add a 3rd audio VCO, so you would always have the LFo for modulation.
The the filter seems to be halfway between the 2nd and 3rd version. It is all around pretty close. The over patching available is as close as I could get. In the end it is what I would mod an Oddy to sound like.”
